Custom systems

Custom Business Systems & Workflow Tools in Northern Virginia

Software shaped around how your business actually runs.

Purpose-built tools for the parts of your operation that spreadsheets and off-the-shelf software cannot handle, like a live check-in board for a weekend school.

Example: a weekend school that always knows who is in the building

A local nonprofit that runs private weekend classes needed to know, at any moment, exactly which students were in the building. Sign-in sheets were slow and nobody trusted them in an emergency.

We built a check-in and check-out system: students tap in at a kiosk, and a live board mounted on a TV in the front office shows everyone currently in the building, who has left, and when. Admins can search, export a roster for a drill, and see the day’s history. It took a few weeks and it has run every weekend since.

How we approach custom systems

We spend the first days watching how work actually happens: where the paper goes, who gets interrupted, what breaks on a busy day. Then we design the smallest system that removes the pain, ship it, and grow it from real use.

Fifteen years in government and banking taught us how to build software that has to be correct and accountable. We bring that discipline, without the enterprise price tag.

Is this you?

A good fit if…

  • 1

You have a process that lives in a binder, a whiteboard, or a fragile spreadsheet

  • 2

Off-the-shelf software does 70 percent of what you need and fights you on the rest

  • 3

Compliance, safety, or accountability requires a real record of who did what and when

  • 4

You need something on a screen that staff can see at a glance

FAQ

Questions we hear a lot

Is custom software expensive?

It costs more up front than a subscription and usually far less over three years, especially when the subscription needs workarounds. We will tell you honestly if an existing product is the better answer.

Can it work with the systems we already have?

That is usually the whole point. We integrate with student information systems, accounting tools, CRMs, and POS systems rather than replacing them.

What if our process changes?

We build in the flexibility we know you will need and keep the code clean so changes are quick. You can keep us on a light retainer or hand it to another developer; the documentation is written for that.

Who owns the software?

You do. Code, hosting, accounts, and data are all in your name.
